GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Green Bay Packers are recognizing the hard work done by our local law enforcement around the state.
For the team’s organization Protect and Serve Award ceremony at the Johnsonville Tailgate Village in Green Bay.
Fourteen awards were handed out during the ceremony, including one to Eagle River Officer Dustin Wichmann. He confronted a person who was harassing a gas station employee last summer.
The person ran and jumped off a bridge, but Wichmann talked him back ashore to safety before arresting them for drug possession.
He also tied for the most OWI arrests in Vilas County last year.
Two Rivers Police won the award for their entire department. Highlighting how they utilized resources to the best of their abilities, with the help of other departments and the community, in solving cases for two child-involved tragedies last year, Elijah Vue and Jacob Baer.
“Do we still constantly think about what happened last year? Yes. That will never leave us, but we’ve grown as a department. We’ve grown in our profession. Established new relationships with other departments,” said Two Rivers Police Captain Andrew Raatz.
The winner of each award will also receive a $2,000 grant for either their department or a non-profit that they work with.
