So you look at the things that the Chiefs have done in the off season, addressing defense with their top pick in the NFL draft.
You know, Patrick Mahomes coming back and getting healthy.
Having the overall kick in the butt of having a season where you miss out on the post-season after you’ve gone on dynastic runs.
look, I don’t think the Chiefs are going to all of a sudden just walk to the Super Bowl just because Patrick Mahomes looks good in OTAs, but I also don’t think that the Chiefs are headed for the next five to 10 years of just total and complete mediocrity and missing out on the post-season.

Because I think that Patrick Mahomes is still Patrick Mahomes.
I think that Andy Reid is still Andy Reid.
And while last season showed us those two alone are not good enough to will you to a Super Bowl, when you put the right pieces around those two, when you have pass catchers that are available and healthy, you know, when you have a defense that looks at least, or should be upgraded from last season, like yeah, I think the Chiefs should find themselves back in the post-season.
I don’t believe the Chiefs have taken the steps forward that they need to take to suddenly find themselves as a 10-win team next year.

When Mahomes went down, he didn’t go down early in the season.
They were six and eight on, on their way to a six and 11 season.
They were six and eight and nothing looked easy.
And I feel like what’s happened over the last couple of years, I’m the guy that sat here on Yahoo over and over and over again saying, “Look, I’m out on the Chiefs when they stop making miracles happen.”
Well, they’ve stopped making miracles happen.
For several years it was like a scratch-off lottery ticket.
You can’t explain it.
You couldn’t explain why the Chiefs were so good, but by God, every single year they got the best coach, they got the best defensive coordinator, they got the best quarterback.

That’s been enough over and over and over again.
The problem is, I think the rest of the AFC’s gotten better, and the Chiefs haven’t in that process.
Because you mentioned some of the failings they had last year.
Those failings still exist.
Their starting wide receivers right now are Tyquan Thornton, Xavier Worthy, and Rashee Rice, who’s in jail.
So I’m looking across the board- Yeah, that thinking it didn’t get better for them in the wide receiver room.
They didn’t solve the wide receiver room.
They just did what they always do, which is look around and say, “Well, when you’ve got a coach as brilliant as Andy Reid and a quarterback as great as Patrick Mahomes, it’ll be fine.”

Will it?
I’m just looking at a team that last year lost to Jacksonville with Mahomes, last year lost to Houston with Mahomes, last year lost to the Chargers with Mahomes.
You start looking across the board, they lost both games to the Chargers.
They were swept by the Chargers last year with Mahomes.
So a- as much as we want to make this about Patrick Mahomes, I think this is about the Chiefs finally getting caught by the way that they’re constructed
