The Philadelphia Eagles spent the offseason reshaping key pieces of their offense, but one foundational element remains unchanged entering 2026. Philadelphia wants every offensive concept to connect, complement one another, and force defenses into impossible decisions about how to contain DeVonta Smith or Saquon Barkley. New offensive coordinator Sean Mannion met with reporters and offered one of the clearest glimpses yet into how the Eagles plan to evolve offensively under Head Coach Nick Sirianni. The phrase Sirianni used was simple.
“Marrying the run and pass game.”
For Mannion, the concept goes far deeper than simply calling runs and passes from the same formation.
“Yeah, that’s absolutely a huge part of what we want to do,” Mannion said. “We want to make sure that as many different elements of our offense fit together, that they look the same and how do we build this wide array of things that kind of start off of a similar type of look.”
That philosophy has become one of the NFL’s biggest offensive trends. The best units create hesitation. Defenders hesitate for half a second because the run action mirrors the passing concept. Linebackers take one false step. Safeties freeze. Cornerbacks lose leverage.

Those small moments create explosive plays.
Philadelphia already possesses one of the league’s strongest offensive foundations with Jalen Hurts operating behind an elite offensive line featuring Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, and Lane Johnson. Saquon Barkley gives the Eagles one of football’s premier rushing attacks, while the passing game continues evolving after an offseason filled with change.
Mannion explained that building those complementary concepts starts long before Sundays.
“A lot of it goes into the planning throughout the week, looking back at weeks past, looking back at seasons past,” Mannion said. “‘Hey, what are other things we’ve shown from these type of presentations to the defense?'”
The approach creates offensive layering. Show defenses one look, then build counters off it. Present similar formations. Similar motions. Similar alignments. Make defenders believe one thing is coming before attacking somewhere else. Creativity also appears to be a major emphasis. Mannion praised Philadelphia’s offensive coaching staff and highlighted how collaborative the process has become as the Eagles continue constructing the offense throughout OTAs.
“Everyone’s been bringing outstanding ideas to the table,” Mannion said. “It’s a really good group of guys who are very intelligent, very creative, really work at it, study all these different things around the league and college.”
Defenses spend entire offseasons studying tendencies. Elite offenses stay ahead by constantly evolving while maintaining core principles that players can execute at a high level.

That willingness to adapt matters, and could put the Eagles offense back in the Super Bowl driver’s seat.
