ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WNEM) – After a disappointing season with no playoffs, the Detroit Lions had a no nonsense mindset as they wrapped their first week of OTA’s.
“We knew what it was coming into this year,” said defensive lineman Alim McNeill. “There’s no sugarcoating nothing, there’s no hiding behind nothing. We know exactly what time it is so that’s what we’re going to do.”
“This will be the most competition we’ve had in my opinion,” said Head Coach Dan Campbell. “We want to hit the ground running when we get to late July, August.”
Plenty of new faces were out on the field today with a lot of excitement about this new looking offensive line. Rookie Guard Blake Miller spoke on how he’s adjusting to working alongside his linemates.
“Even just watching them go through Indy like sitting there on the iPad, clicking through their film and watching how they do things and learning stuff from them,” said Miller. “Like you really get a vision of this is what it’s supposed to look like.”
The Lions offense itself will have a new look with Drew Petzing taking over as Offensive Coordinator. The team says they’re already hitting the ground running towards being a dominant group this season.
“His energy, his excitement about everything, his ability to listen to us but at the same time have ideas that he really likes and stands on,” said Goff. “It’s fun man, he’s doing a great job and I’m excited to continue to work with him.”
The Lions will continue their OTA’s before Training Camp gets underway and Detroit will have their first in game action when they open the preseason on August 13th.
