After cutting Stefon Diggs in early March, the New England Patriots needed to find a new No. 1 wide receiver this offseason.

Fortunately, they found a great one in A.J. Brown, acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 first-round draft pick.

Based on the initial reaction from Patriots insider Mike Reiss, the three-time Pro Bowler seems like a perfect fit for New England for several reasons.

For starters, Brown already has a strong relationship with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel after playing three seasons for him with the Tennessee Titans.

“Mike Vrabel, having coached A.J. Brown for three years in Tennessee, a big part of this in leading to the conviction to give up the first-round pick in 2028. That’s a significant chip,” Reiss told ESPN on Monday.

Reiss also said Patriots players are excited to finally have Brown aboard. This trade had been rumored for months, giving New England players plenty of time to get hyped about the former Super Bowl champ’s arrival.

“They are excited,” Reiss added. “They’ve been anticipating this trade.”

Lastly, Reiss noted that Brown will fill the leadership void left by Diggs in the Patriots’ receiving corps, which was noticeable at practice last week.

“That alpha is going to be back in that wide receiver room, based on what I saw last week,” Reiss concluded.

All signs point to Brown being a great fit for New England, where he’ll join one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Drake Maye and try to win another Super Bowl ring.
