The Washington Commanders are signing former Atlanta Falcons tight end Anthony Firkser, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday afternoon. The 31-year-old spent last season with the Detroit Lions, appearing in seven games and recording eight catches for 53 receiving yards.

The former undrafted free agent out of Harvard began his career with the Titans, spending four seasons in Tennessee (2018-2021) where he worked with former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith. In 2022, Firkser followed Smith to Atlanta and signed with the team as a free agent.

Firkser appeared in 11 games for the Falcons that season, catching nine of 13 targets for 100 receiving yards. The veteran tight end did not return to Atlanta in 2023, instead signing with the New England Patriots. However, Firkser did not make the 53-man roster and later ended up with the Lions.

In 2024, he signed with the New York Jets and later with the Kansas City Chiefs but did not record a single catch that season. After spending the 2025 season in Detroit, Firkser will now take his talents to Washington where he will play for former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn.

Over his eight-year NFL career, Firkser has appeared in 85 games, recording 123 catches for 1,260 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The Falcons addressed their tight end room over the offseason by bringing back veteran Austin Hooper and using the franchise tags on Kyle Pitts.
