JACKSONVILLE, Florida (KOSA) – Former UT Permian Basin wide receiver Ben Patterson is getting his first professional experience.
Organized team activities started Monday for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Patterson signed with the Jaguars after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Patterson spent his whole five-year collegiate career with the UTPB Falcons. He finished second all-time for career receiving yards, recording 1,774.
“Just to make this lifelong dream even obtainable and I’m just so thankful for my time in Odessa and I feel like it’s helped prepare and get me ready just to grow here in Jacksonville,” Patterson said.
The Jaguars added a unique player to the wide receiver room.
At 6′5″, Patterson is the tallest listed receiver by three inches. He is fast for his size, running a 4.45 40-yard dash.
He joins an organization that is coming off of a very good 2025 season, winning the AFC South with a 13-4 record.
Jacksonville lost to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.
The team also boasts a strong offense. The Jaguars gained the 11th most yards in the NFL in 2025, the 12th most passing yards, and the 6th best scoring offense.
Patterson said he’s learning a lot from Jaguars wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett.
“Coach EB [Edgar Bennett], he’s just been preaching to me about becoming a better routerunner, becoming a better receiver, buying in and being a great blocker– that’s the huge thing– ‘no block, no rock’, so that’s huge,” Patterson said, “I just want to come into the receiver room and I’m just being a sponge, soaking up everything.”
Patterson is also eagar to learn from the receivers that led the way in 2025.
“We’ve got some great talented receivers here, so I just pick up from whatever I can, whatever tidbits they have for me,” Patterson said, “I just soak up everything I can, and just try to become a better receiver, and from that point on, whatever the team needs from me, that’s what I’m willing to do– whether it’s being a beast on special teams, giving a great look [in practice], being a great receiver. I just want to be the best in whatever my role is.”
Patterson will continue to work through the rest of OTAs, taking place until June 17. He hopes to make the final 53-man roster at the end of preseason.
