Nick Herbig‘s newly signed four-year, $100 million contract extension may have created more questions than answers regarding the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ outside linebackers, but one NFL insider revealed the team’s plan for a three-headed edge-rushing monster.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers plan to “keep all three rushers” in Herbig, T.J. Watt, and Alex Highsmith following the massive extension.
In 2023, Highsmith signed a four-year extension worth $68 million. Two years later, the Steelers signed Watt to a three-year, $123 million extension.

Herbig, who led all edge rushers in pass-rush win rate last season, has seen far less playing time than Watt and Highsmith. And despite the limited opportunity, Herbig has recorded an incredible 13 sacks and seven forced fumbles over the past two seasons.
With arguably the best edge rush trio in the league, the Steelers’ defense should have no problems getting to the quarterback, which should continue at least through the 2026 season according to Fowler’s report.
