It doesn’t really make much sense that there have been some small rumors suggesting that the Philadelphia Eagles could move on from Jalen Carter.

I understand there’s a contract situation to figure out, but Howie Roseman is a smart guy, and there’s absolutely no chance I can see him moving on from a player as talented as Carter.

Perhaps the money eventually gets to be a bit too high, and the Eagles want to go a separate direction, but I just don’t imagine a world in which Roseman is content with letting one of the top players in the NFL walk, especially when he’s proven throughout his time as the decision-maker for the Eagles that he wants to build an elite defense.

Never say never, however, as anything is truly possible in the NFL. At the end of the day, guys are going to make shocking moves, even if they don’t make sense.

However, I think it’s almost safe to say that the Eagles weren’t and aren’t going to move on from Carter anytime in the near future, as it’s now being reported that the Cleveland Browns wanted Carter from the Eagles in a deal for Myles Garrett. Instead of being traded to the Eagles, Garrett was eventually moved to the Los Angeles Rams in a separate package that included the youngster Jared Verse and draft picks.

“The Eagles’ insistence on keeping Carter is a bit confusing, given that the forward-looking Eagles have yet to sign Carter to a second contract. In March, after the Eagles signed defensive tackle Jordan Davis to a new deal, it was leaked that they have gotten calls about Carter, which often is part of a strategy aimed at getting more. The challenge for the Eagles as to Carter is his fifth-year option salary of $27.1 million in 2027. Given that number, he may be looking for a market-level deal well in excess of $30 million in new-money average,” Mike Florio wrote.

I don’t really agree with Florio here when it comes to keeping Carter on the roster. If the Eagles aren’t going to sign him, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I just don’t get the feeling there’s any indication Philadelphia is going to move on from him.
