The drama is finally over for the Philadelphia Eagles, as Howie Roseman has completed his deal to send AJ Brown to the New England Patriots. The return wasn’t exactly the greatest for the Eagles, but they were still able to get a first-round pick.
I had a feeling that Philadelphia was going to get a bit more than a fifth-round pick in return after that, but I don’t think you can be too upset after making a deal for an obviously disgruntled player who no longer wanted to be with the organization.

Regardless, the Eagles made that decision and now have to live with the results. They’re hoping that DeVonta Smith is going to be the clear WR1, and I already think he’s proven that he can be just that. Smith, especially during parts of his career when he has needed to be, has proven he has WR1 capabilities.
Now, it’s all about getting that full workload throughout a regular season. When speaking to reporters about it, he sounds more than willing to live up to the responsibilities.
“I think that when you have a room like the one we have,” Smith said, per the team, “it brings the best out in everybody else. Everybody wants to compete. Everybody wants to be the best. We’re all there to help each other. But ultimately, we’re all there to compete for the position … at the end of the day, it’s all love. I’m just going out there and doing my job, regardless of whether you want to look at it as one, two, three, four…
“You just want to be better every year,” he said. “That’s what I’m focusing on – learning the offense, doing what I can do to help us win football games and improving every day, and helping the guys in the room.”

What I love about Smith is that he’s just a guy who wants to play football. He understands that if the Eagles end up being the team they’re looking to be, it will require a team effort.
Not only does he need to be one of the best players in the world, wide receiver-wise, but he also needs Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and his other wide receivers to do the job as well. He always speaks highly about his teammates, and there’s something to be said about that.
