Mandatory minicamp will take place for the Jacksonville Jaguars from June 9-11. This is often the last big milestone in the NFL offseason calendar before training camp arrives in late July.

Through the first two weeks of OTA practices, we’ve gained some valuable insights into where things stand on the depth chart, along with who may be standing out early on, but questions at each position group remain, and that’s normal at this time of the year. It won’t be until training camp and the preseason take place that playing time and final roster decisions are made.

So as part of our Jaguars‘ minicamp preview, let’s highlight the one big question facing each position group, starting with the quarterbacks.

Can Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr.’s connection continue to grow?

Between OTAs and minicamp, one very specific thing that Liam Coen wants to see from Lawrence is that he continues to build his chemistry with Thomas, particularly on downfield throws.

Through two weeks of OTA practices, the two have been very successful in doing that. John Shipley of Jaguars on SI noted recently how difficult it has been for the Jaguars’ defensive backs to stick with Thomas.

Now, the next step is to continue building upon that early success.

The Lawrence-Thomas downfield connection won’t only generate more explosive plays for the Jaguars — which leads to points — but it will help open up opportunities for others within the offense.

Thomas’ presence will garner the attention of opposing defenders, helping to create opportunities for other Jaguars’ pass-catchers. And with opponents mindful of Jacksonville’s ability to push the ball downfield, that can then open up the short-to-intermediate passing game, and even help the run game with fewer defenders near the line of scrimmage.

Greater continuity between Lawrence and Thomas will do wonders for the Jaguars’ offense.
