The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did a great job of addressing each of their potential needs in at least some fashion. They snagged Rueben Bain Jr. for the pass rush, Alex Anzalone and Josiah Trotter at inside linebacker, Keionte Scott to start right away in the secondary, Ted Hurst to help replace the loss of Mike Evans, A’Shawn Robinson to beef up the defensive line, and Kenny Gainwell for running back depth after the loss of Rachaad White.

There is one position that the Buccaneers made two key moves at, too, and it is a position that many outside of Tampa Bay are not talking about enough. The Bucs surprised some people by re-signing Cade Otton and paying the somewhat disappointing, but very talented, starting tight end when many assumed that more interested parties would attract Otton way from Tampa with a better financial offer (and potentially more targets).

And not only did the Buccaneers surprise some by keeping Otton around for a few more seasons, but they also went ahead and drafted a potential sleeper in the draft class in LSU Tigers product Bauer Sharp with the sixth-round pick.

Bauer Sharp has made some easy cuts for the Bucs

Keeping Otton and drafting Sharp means that there are two Buccaneers tight ends who are at serious risk of getting cut this summer when things heat up in the 53 man roster battle in a couple of months at training camp.

Both Devin Culp and Payne Durham only had one reception each in the 2025 NFL season, and they are ripe for the chopping block, especially with the selection of Sharp and the young Jason Licht draft pick already turning some heads at OTAs.

Culp has the most intriguing profile of the two tight ends on the bubble, but he’s been even worse than Cade Otton at attempting to actually put it together on the field. He has below average hands, and whlie he is a great athlete, his sharpness on routes and attention to detail are simply not at the NFL level – hence why the Buccaneers do not even play him.

Meanwhile, Durham is an even easier cut. He was actually selected higher than both Devin Culp and Bauer Sharp in the NFL Draft as a fifth round pick, but that means nothing. Durham has had three years in the NFL and has never caught more than 11 passes for the Bucs. He is the worst athlete of the three, and the Bucs really have no use for his plodding profile. At this point, Durham can consider himself served.
