I was so sorry to hear about the death of Ray Berry (“Former receiver, coach Berry dies at 93,” Sports, June 2). He lived in Medfield while coaching the Patriots, and I was the children’s librarian at the Medfield Public Library.
When the Patriots lost to the Bears in Super Bowl XX, I was so impressed with his calm and gracious demeanor in defeat. I wrote a letter to him saying just that, and that he was a true exemplary role model for the children of Medfield.
Imagine my delight when I received a handwritten letter from him thanking me for my kind words! That letter remains one of my most cherished possessions.
Rest in peace, Ray Berry. You will be remembered as a true class act.
