The fullback position is not as prominent in the NFL as it once was, but many would argue that the 49ers have one of the best the sport has ever seen.
A fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens and signed in 2017 by the 49ers, Kyle Juszczyk has been a stalwart for San Francisco during his nine-year stint. He has been a Pro Bowl selection every season with the team, and also earned the honor in his final season with the Ravens.
However, questions have arisen regarding how much the 35-year-old has left in the tank, which he addressed Saturday when speaking to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.”
“I feel so good and I’m still having so much fun,” Juszczyk said. “I’m in zero pain whatsoever, and like you said, I feel like I’m still playing at such a high level. So, I just want to continue this thing as long as I possibly can. It’s been such a great offseason, like OTAs were so enjoyable.”
Although he is widely considered the best fullback in the NFL, Juszczyk also revealed that he is constantly working to improve and expand his game. Juszczyk explained that in order to take his game to the next level, he has been working extensively with the tight ends this offseason.
“I still feel like I’m growing,” Juszczyk said. “I spent this whole offseason during OTAs, meeting with the tight ends, practicing with the tight ends, to just continue to build and continue to grow. I still feel like I’m doing that even at 35-years-old.”
Considering how physically taxing his position is, Juszczyk certainly seems to be an anomaly with his longevity. However, he is both a fan and organizational favorite, and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
