Colts roster: Revised depth chart on offense after minicamp takeaways

Following three days of minicamp practices, let’s put together a revised projection of what the Indianapolis Colts’ depth chart looks like for the offense.

As we stated in our recent 53-man roster prediction, what takes place in minicamp won’t solely determine playing time and final roster decisions. Ultimatley, training camp and the preseason will carry the most weight.

That said, minicamp is a piece of that puzzle, and during these practices, there are players who stand out. The foundation for training camp is laid during the offseason programs.

So with that in mind, here is an early guess on where things stand on offense.

Richardson and Leonard are competing for the backup quarterback role. When asked recently if either Richardson or Leonard had begun separating from the other, Shane Steichen said, “Not right now.” So for the time being, we’ll give Richardson the benefit of the doubt and list him ahead of Leonard.

Giddens and McGowan are competing for the backup running back role. We will give Giddens the early advantage on the depth chart, given his year of experience in Steichen’s offense. Steichen also recently highlighted the growth he has seen from Giddens.

Dulin seems to be the clear front-runner in the WR3 battle. Westbrook-Ikhine is listed ahead of Treadwell as the recent free agent addition, but Treadwell very much seems to be in the mix for a roster spot.

With largely the same tight end room as last year, there aren’t many unknowns with this position group.

The first five players listed make up the starting offensive line. Morrissey gets the backup center title because of his experience for the time being. As a fourth-round pick, Farmer is listed as the first guard off the bench, and Tenuta the first tackle, given his experience from last season.
