SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – As much as Haynesville loves Cam Jackson, the now second-year NFL star reciprocates the feeling. The former Golden Tornado hosted his inaugural football camp inside Red Franklin Stadium, a place where it all started.
“After the season last year, I have to do my first camp for the kids,” says Jackson. “Come out here. Just show them. Let them run around and teach them.”
The lessons the former Memphis Tiger and Florida Gator alum were dishing out weren’t exclusive to the skills and drills on the field.
“A lot of people have been asking me how tall I am, and that’s really been the main question,” says Jackson.
Jackson, who’s now entering his sophomore season, has 85 snaps during his rookie campaign. With injuries in the defensive tackle room, and A’Shawn Robinson moving onto Tampa Bay, 2026 could be the 6-foot-6, 328 pounder’s year.
“Me just stepping up and being able to take that role, and being there with Derrick Brown,” says Jackson. “That’s the first big step for me. To show that it’s now hard. You just have to go out and do your job and know what you’re doing.”
While it’s business when he returns to Charlotte, Cam Jackson always knows when he comes back to Haynesville, he’s surrounded by family.
“Giving back to the community is something Cam wanted to do,” says Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back and Homer High School alum, Star Thomas. “When he hit me up, I already knew I was all-in on it. Just coming out here to be supportive and to show the kids if we can do anything, they can do it.”
“It’s a blessing to come out here and I said, ‘Start saying,’” says former Kansas City Chiefs running back, and Springhill High School alum, Charcandrick West. “The most important thing I heard [Cam] say was, ‘Listen to your parents. Your mom and dad and keep grinding.’”
