The capacity listed by FIFA for Dallas Stadium is 70,649, which is significantly lower than the stadium’s listed capacity for Dallas Cowboys games. So what gives?

The other reason for the lower attendance figures than Cowboys games is the lack of “standing room only” tickets. AT&T Stadium’s seated capacity is around 80,000, but it’s able to exceed 100,000 with standing room only tickets.

Attendance figures have also been a hot topic due to some visible empty seats at a few games. How does FIFA calculate attendance at these games?

FIFA clarified with The Athletic: “Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data.”
