Detroit Lions finish first week of OTAs

  • May 31, 2025

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WNEM) – The Detroit Lions finished their first week of OTAs. Today, marked day three of organized team activities.

Although there are several new faces on this squad, the message remains the same.

“There’s no room for complacency so we’re not going to deal with entitlement or complacency, our team’s not,” Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell said. “I can already tell you after two days going into day three, it’s already tightened up in a matter of days which is awesome.”

Along with new players, the Lions are getting acclimated to new coordinators. John Morton the OC and Kelvin Sheppard the DC.

“There will be a lot of that carry over and some new and to be honest, I don’t think that would have been any different if you’re returning with the same offense,” Lions quarterback Jared Goff said. “You always add some wrinkles but yeah, certainly he has his flavor on the offense and has been doing a good job.”

A great sight for the Lions, Aidan Hutchinson was flying around today. He and Detroit are hungry and enter this season with a chip on their shoulder.

“Everybody remembers it but we’re not dwelling on it. We have a long season ahead of us,” Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams said. “We have big games this season. We’ve moved on from the past you know but it’s still there just for that little fire we need to go forward.”

Detroit has an extremely tough schedule to get back to the postseason and head coach Dan Campbell wouldn’t want it any other way.

“The challenge of it is what you really love. That’s why you love this game. The NFL, that’s why it’s at its best,” Campbell said. “Not only here at home, our own division, go on the road, I mean some of these teams, it’s awesome man. By the end of the year we ought to be scared up you know, scarred up and ready to go, hardened for battle and ready for the playoffs and there will be nothing easy about it. Just to get through our own division is going to be brutal but it’s the right kind of brutal.”

The first game action for Detroit will happen two months from tomorrow on July 31 when the Lions kick off the NFL Preseason in the Hall of Fame Game.
