LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After going from Lansing, MI to the National Football League, Green Bay Packers defensive tackle and Lansing Sexton High School graduate Karl Brooks, is helping inspire the next generation through his 3rd Annual “Karl Brooks Football Camp”.

During the free camp held at Lansing Sexton, young athletes work on their skills and develop better patterns, helping them to become better players and better students.

Brooks says in order to get to where he is in life, he received a lot of support from family, friends, his coaches and his community. After Brooks graduated from Lansing Sexton, he attended Bowling Green State before being drafted to the NFL in 2023.

Now Brooks wants to be one of those people, helping today’s kids be the best version of themselves.

“God put me in this position,” said Brooks. “He put so may amazing people in my corner. I always heard it takes a village to raise a kid and I had an amazing village around me, surrounding me from parents to grannies, to aunties to brothers and sisters and I just feel like it takes a village to raise a kid and I just want to show that inspiration and appreciation back into the city,” he explained.

While Brooks gives a lot of credit to the every kid who came out to be part of the camp and get better on the field, he also wanted to thank the parents for making sure the kids were outside having fun instead of being in the house.

“A bigger appreciation for getting them out the house and getting them out here on the field ant allowing their kids just to be on the iPad’s and do nothing,” said Brooks. “So I really appreciate all the parents that got up on Juneteenth weekend and came out here to support my camp. I do appreciate that and I love to see kids that’s still outside.”
