‘Very proud,’ Texans’ Frank Ross holding fourth annual Coaches Cuts event at Covenant House next Friday

  • May 31, 2025

HOUSTON – A year ago, a homeless man woke up sleeping under a bridge.

He had a premonition that his day was going to get a lot better.

He was told there was going to be a special event to assist homeless individuals hosted by Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross, and he gladly accepted

The day included much more than a fresh haircut and a shave. There were showers, free meals, clean clothes, teeth cleaning and whitening and gift cards along with encouraging conversations.

Ross, who taught himself how to cut hair while attending and playing football at John Carroll University, is holding his fourth annual Coaches’ Cut program on Friday night at Covenant House in Montrose. Through Coach Ross Cuts, his nonprofit organization, the event will include haircuts and nail grooming, food, drinks, hygiene essentials, clothing fellowship and his trademark Frank Sinatra music. Donations can be given at coachrosscuts.com

“Very proud of what the event has grown into, thank you for everybody that has donated,” Ross said. “It’s special. It’s important for us to take care of our own in the Houston community, so thanks for asking about it. Very excited.

“We will be there to raise some spirits and treat both the youth population there, male and female, to a day of haircuts, pampering and some feel-good. We are excited to do that.”

Ross was visibly emotional while discussing the impact of these interactions last year.

“Good for the soul,” he said.

Ross emphasized his desire to help others, to give back, to leave these men, ideally, with everlasting hope.

“This isn’t football, it’s our community,” Ross said. “It’s our town. I’m thankful to be here.”
