The Pittsburgh Steelers came into this offseason knowing wide receiver was a major position of need. In their moves for Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard, the Steelers made some big improvements. But could they still be in need of another receiver, particularly a free agent in Stefon Diggs?

“I think a team with a young receiving corps, an inexperienced receiving corps, could take a shot at him. You know, maybe the Cleveland Browns. Could the Pittsburgh Steelers use him? I think they could. He could go a lot of places and help make a football team better,” former NFL CB Richard Sherman said Wednesday on his podcast.

Diggs is one of a few notable veteran receivers yet to find a home for the 2026 season, along with Tyreek Hill and Deebo Samuel. For Diggs, part of the reason was due to his legal troubles. He faced battery chargers earlier this offseason, but was found not guilty. Without the legal trouble hanging over him anymore, the runway seems clear for Diggs to find a new home.

After playing just eight games in 2024, Stefon Diggs rebounded in a big way with New England last year. He caught 85 of his 102 targets, scored four times, and hit 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh time in his career. Despite turning 32 last season, Diggs showed he could still produce with numbers that would have led all Steelers receivers last year.

But is Diggs the right fit for the Steelers? There are reasons to think he isn’t. For one, Pittsburgh isn’t as desperate for proven talent anymore with a solid duo of Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf. Behind them, the Steelers are hoping Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson will continue to develop. Ben Skowronek’s special teams abilities keep him on the roster as the fifth receiver. Then, the Steelers have a few youngsters trying to establish an offensive role in Kaden Wetjen and Eli Heidenreich.

With the long road of an NFL season, it never hurts to have more depth. However, Diggs would be joining a receiving corps that already has two proven starting-caliber players. There’s a chance he might fancy a team that could offer him a more substantial role instead.

Sherman isn’t the only one to think Stefon Diggs to Pittsburgh makes sense. As we get closer to training camp, the likelier it becomes that Diggs finds a home for the 2026 season. Sherman thinks Pittsburgh should be a candidate.
