Local teens have an opportunity to stay active this summer through a free flag football program offered by the Lompoc Teen Activity Program.
Lompoc Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Lompoc Family YMCA, Lompoc Valley Community Healthcare Organization and the Lompoc Unified School District to provide the program for youth ages 11 to 18.
The program, which began June 15, runs through Aug. 7 at the Lompoc Community Track and Field, 515 W. College Ave. Organizers say the program is open to participants of all skill levels, from first-time players to experienced athletes.
Sessions are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with activities scheduled between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. depending on the week.
In addition to teaching football fundamentals, organizers said the program is designed to help participants build confidence, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and form positive connections with peers during the summer months.
Participants are encouraged to wear athletic clothing, bring cleats and a water bottle.
Registration is free, though space may be limited. For more information, call Lompoc Parks and Recreation at 805-875-8100.
