The Texas Longhorns have been on an absolute recruiting heater this week and it extended into the weekend as the Longhorns have positioned themselves to make another run at a top-five recruiting class and took another step towards that goal on Saturday with the commitment of Garland Lakeview Centennial cornerback Montre Jackson over the Ole Miss Rebels, SMU Mustangs, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Texas has been at the forefront of Montre Jackson’s recruitment since January, when Jackson made the trip to Austin for Junior Day. Shortly after that Jackson named the Longhorns as one of his leaders in his recruitment.

While other programs made credible pitches and Jackson took visits to programs like his other three finalists, Texas won out for the 6’0, 180-pounder. Jackson held close to 40 total offers, including Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Stanford, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt, among others.

– Potential field corner candidate at the P4 level.
– Possesses adequate frame with speed verified on the track.
– Often used in press and off-man coverages and performs well in each.
– Made noticeable strides in comfort level as a pure cover man from sophomore to junior season.
– Does not get tested often, which affects ball production. That said, ideally would see more impact plays in the takeaway category.
– Still manages to get hands on throws and plays consistently pesky at the catch point.
– Shows capable perimeter tackling ability when needed and will hustle for chase-down tackles when necessary.
– Possesses the physical and athletic tools, accompanied by burgeoning coverage awareness, to become a high-major starter with long-term potential beyond college.

A consensus four-star prospect, Jackson is ranked as the No. 223 player overall and the No. 27 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Jackson’s commitment is the 20th pledge for the Longhorn class of 2027 and closes the gap on the fourth overall spot in the class rankings that is currently held by Oklahoma. The Longhorns have kicked things into high gear on the recruiting trail and there are still several big fish still on the line as we head into July, which will likely hold more commitment decisions.
