When the New York Giants take the field to kick off the 2025 season, the team is going to look very different. After moving on from quarterback Daniel Jones before the end of last season, the lone first-round pick that remains on the Giants roster from the 2019 draft class is star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Lawrence has become not only one of the best defensive linemen but one of the best defensive players in the entire NFL.

But how does Lawrence stack up against the rest of the defensive tackles in the NFL? Pro Football Focus released their list of the top 32 interior defensive linemen ahead of the 2025 season and Lawrence checked in at No. 2 on the list.
2. DEXTER LAWRENCE, NEW YORK GIANTS
Lawrence logged only 550 snaps in 2024 due to some missed time, but he recorded an 89.0-plus PFF overall grade (89.9) for the third season in a row. His 1.07 PFF WAR over the past three years sits behind only Chris Jones at the position.
Lawrence took a massive leap in Year 4 and has not looked back since. After not exceeding a PFF grade higher than 79.7 in his first three years in the NFL, he has earned grades of 91.6, 92.9, and 89.9 in the last three years.
Lawrence has served as a team captain and a defensive leader. He is a dominating force in the backfield both as a run-stopper and a pass-rusher.
The Giants star nose tackle may be in line for his best year yet in 2025. Last offseason, the Giants acquired Brian Burns via trade, and in the 2025 NFL draft, they continued to strengthen the defensive line by drafting Abdul Carter out of Penn State.

Lawrence, of course, was drafted with the first-round pick the Giants acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the infamous Odell Beckham Jr. trade. Ironically enough, Lawrence was the third Clemson defensive lineman selected in the 2019 NFL draft.
Lawrence continues to impress and be a model of consistency for Big Blue. He has become one of the most dominant forces in the league, and with the Giants’ defense making major improvements in the offseason, the best may still be yet to come from Lawrence.
