Backup quarterback play from Drew Lock will be important for the Seattle Seahawks to have in 2026 in the event that it is needed.

According to Seattle Seahawks on SI’s Michael Hanich, Lock appears poised to be ready to perform in place of Sam Darnold if called upon next season.

”He has the arm strength to get the ball out deep to dangerous deep-threat playmakers like wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Rashid Shaheed,” Hanich said. “His biggest obstacle is spreading the ball throughout the field in the short-to-mid-range passing plays. Lock, however, has shown the charisma and ability to stay ready as a backup through three different teams. He also has a bond with many of the players in the locker room.”

Darnold did not miss a single game in the 2025 season, regular season and playoffs included. However, in the event that the star QB misses time next season, Lock has a track record of being able to produce yards in the passing attack throughout his career, though he will need to control his interceptions to be at his best for Seattle when called upon.
