Texas A&M football adds commitment of 4-star wide receiver

  • June 28, 2026

(KBTX) – The Texas A&M football team’s come-from-behind win against South Carolina last season did much more than keep its playoff hopes alive. The effort helped land its latest commit in the class of 2027.

On Saturday, 247Sports-rated four-star wide receiver Eric McFarland III committed to the Aggies, picking A&M over Florida and Georgia on a CBS Sports HQ broadcast.

As the Aggies mounted their second-half comeback, McFarland saw head coach Mike Elko’s culture in action.

“We’ve seen the proof is in the pudding… Whatever he told them in the locker room, after that, you could tell it really connected to all the kids there and they ended up coming back and winning,” McFarland told CBS Sports at his commitment. “So, you could tell they had a lot of grit and I just want to be a part of that.”

The 5-foot-8, 177-pound receiver was the MVP of the 2026 Polynesian Bowl, catching four passes for 66 yards. He was also an Under Armour All-American. He is a member of the football team at IMG Academy.

McFarland said he committed during his official visit on May 28 and shared a “wholesome moment” with Elko and offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins.

Wiggins’ move from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator this year was another reason for McFarland’s interest, he said. Elko’s pitch during his visit was real, without any salesmanlike tactics, he said.

“When I first went up there, I got a little spark just being with Coach Wiggins, when he was there as a receiver coach,” McFarland said. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s from the West Coast and I just connect with a lot of people from the West Coast, but we had a great connection going up there.”

McFarland is the next addition to A&M’s 2027 class that currently ranks No. 1 in the country, according to 247Sports. So far, A&M has 25 commits, including two five-star recruits and 14 four-star recruits. The class is led by five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He’s the fourth wide receiver to commit to the class alongside Jaden Upshaw, Damani Warren and Trey Haddad.
