The Tennessee Titans overhauled a significant portion of their roster during the offseason and appear to have turned the corner, trending upward. But as many expected, they couldn’t address every question they had during the offseason.

One area that remained basically static was running back. Yes, they drafted Nick Singleton out of Penn State, but the majority of the carries will fall on the combination of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears. A running back tandem that clearly doesn’t impress Sharp Football in their offseason rankings.

No. 25. Tennessee Titans

The Titans made the questionable decision to run it back with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, despite minimal production last year. Even when avoiding backfield contact, Tennessee running backs gained five or more yards on just 38% of their carries, the league’s third-worst rate.

Much like the Titans’ front seven, this positioning feels a little low. After a slow start to the season, like the entire offense, Tony Pollard took off after the firing of Brian Callahan, finishing with another 1,000-yard season and being extremely impressive down the stretch. And while Spears battled injury early, he too had some outstanding moments late. That combination, with the addition of Singleton, has a chance to surprise in 2026.

This unit may lack splash, but they are consistent and should benefit from having an offensive coordinator who actually understands playcalling in Brian Daboll. In both 2024 and early 2025, the Titans’ offense was a disaster under Callahan, and the offensive line may have been worse under Bill Callahan, as the team proved when they were gone, coming to life and flashing potential.
