The Miami Hurricanes will be starting their third transfer quarterback in as many seasons, as they went from Cam Ward (Washington State) to Carson Beck (Georgia), and now they bring in former Duke Blue Devil Darian Mensah. Mensah had a phenomenal season in 2025 and brings a ton of upside to this offense, and his draft stock is on the rise with this move.

What does his summer scouting report look like? Let’s talk about it.

Height: 6’3″Weight: 205 lbsRecruiting rank: Three-star recruit, no. 112 quarterback nationally in 2023Hometown: San Luis Obispo, CaliforniaGames watched: Illinois, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Arizona StateStrengths:Great job throwing receivers openHas nice touch on the deep ballSet Duke single-season record, throwing for 3,973 yards in 2025Does well working through progressionsWith a clean pocket, Mensah can tear a defense apartStepped up in big gamesExpert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.Weaknesses:Average arm strength, at bestStruggles to push ball deep in comparison to other quarterbacks in classBailed out by drops on defense; should have had more turnoversIf he put on 10-15 lbs, the concerns about durability would quietBrings low value in terms of rushing

Darian Mensah is a strong pocket passer who might struggle to translate to the NFL. However, in this Manny Diaz offense, he could shine this season and raise his stock. As of right now, I have Mensah as a third-round prospect, who I would not be surprised to see be in conversation for an early-second come season’s end.
