MYRON ROLLE JOINS NFLPA

Myron Rolle, a former Rhodes Scholar who played for the Steelers in 2012, is joining the NFLPA. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rolle will have a “strategic advisory role focused on player health, brain cognition and preventive care across the player lifecycle.”

Following his NFL retirement in 2013, Rolle attended Florida State’s College of Medicine, graduating in 2017. Since then, he has worked as a neurosurgeon. Given his history in healthcare and as an NFL player, Rolle is uniquely qualified for this role. The announcement comes just one week after former NFL RB Chris Johnson was diagnosed with ALS.

ROCKY BLEIER TO SERVE AS SPEAKER

Former Steelers RB Rocky Bleier, a Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 10th annual Boots & Suits Gala in Houston on Saturday night. In a tweet promoting the event, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson noted that Bleier will be the keynote speaker.

Boots For Troops is a nonprofit charity that sends care packages, including new boots, to troops actively serving in the military. Bleier will help bring renown to the event as a four-time Super Bowl champion who has actively promoted military causes since he served the country.

BROWNS SAVED MONEY FROM WATSON

Although Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson’s five-year, $230 million contract is arguably one of the worst in NFL history, Cleveland received some cap relief. Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, who dug through NFLPA records, the Browns have received over $88 million in cap credits because of Watson’s injuries. The team took out an insurance policy on Watson, allowing them to receive cap credits in case of an injury.

A 2024 article by ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler explains how teams can take out an insurance policy on a player. Cleveland has recouped some money after Watson missed time over the past few seasons due to injury. Now healthy, Watson will look to compete for Cleveland’s starting quarterback job in 2026.
