A Colton staple that’s served as a family-friendly destination for decades announced it will be closing its doors this week.
Fiesta Village Family Fun Park announced that after 50 years, it will close after the weekend. The announcement was made on the attraction’s website, where it announced that its final days would be July 10 and 11.
“We invite you to bring your family and friends to celebrate Fiesta Village one last time—to laugh, play and create one final memory together,” the announcement read.
According to the park’s leadership, rising operating costs, low attendance and competition from larger amusement parks are behind the closure. During its peak, the park welcomed 3,000 guests during its weekend operations; those figures have been down to a few hundred.
“Right now, functioning the park, we are 25 employees,” said Maria Blanco, the Vice President of Operations of Fiesta Village. “We were at 60 and dropped to 30.”
Fiesta Village boasted eight acres of family-friendly fun that included a miniature golf course, a skate park, an arcade and carnival rides. It first opened in 1974 and in 2002, was purchased by Michelle O’Brien, who has been operating it ever since.
“It’s a change that needed to happen,” Blanco said. “We wish we could be here longer and forever, but sometimes change is necessary.”
