Biggest question is easy to see, has to be the Secondary between injuries, age and legal issues (SMH) this Secondary is nothing but questions.
Don’t disagree, but they also have a lot of very good answers. Brad attacked the depth on the Secondary and despite shopping by NFL standards the bargain basement, he seems to have a lot of good players fighting for playing for playing time. Good amount of experience and youth, I feel pretty good about the Secondary being okay.
We might need to dust off the title of Legion of Whom, except with better players.

If not Secondary then it must be the DL, that place is always full of questions and plenty of questions this year. Will Alim be all he can be, will T Will make the sophomore jump, can a rookie at DE be the answer, did I spell Wonnum right and what is he anyways?
On top of that for me is WHO IS THE BACK-UP NT.
But it feels different this year, like the Secondary there appears to be real answers available. Sure, we hope Turner is healthy, but we are not being held hostage, Campbell’s words, not mine, like we were with Davenport in the past.

Barnes is a question at LB, but who cares when the LB room starts with Jack Campbell. I think they can find someone to play a few snaps alongside that.

Must be on the OL, got a rookie RT and we don’t know about Mahogany playing LG anymore. Okay, technically those are questions, but Brad seems ready with answers for this too.

Nope, the biggest question besides coaches now is the same it was going into the offseason, Center.
But didn’t Holmes answer that when his biggest Free Agent was Cade Mays. Just like in the 23 off season and the Secondary was bad, Brad jumped out there and signed Cam Sutton. In 24 they needed a DT and Holmes gave DJ Reader stacks of cash.
hmmm, maybe Holmes giving a player isn’t a guarantee of greatness. Brad did bring in Greg Montegomery and Anzalone but this is looking like a 50/50 thing with Brad.

The biggest question is on what side of pass/fail will the Cade Mays signing fall. When we dig a little the answer isn’t as clear as we think or hope.

Go back to college he played a partial game at Center in an emergency in 2019. That is his entire Center experience, though he did start a total of 35 games at OG and OT over 4 years at Georgia and Tenn.
Good enough to be a 6th round pick by Carolina.

His pro career has been just as messy, played 27 games, started 7 at OG over his first two seasons, not bad for a 6th round pick but he was cut in the final cutdown before the 24 season.
The Giants put him on their practice squad when Carolina ran into injury problems and signed Mays. He ended up starting 8 games at Center in 24 and started 12 more games at Center last year.
That’s it, 4 years in the NFL, 20 total starts at Center. Didn’t even make it through the year either, missed 3 games with an ankle injury.

Not really, ranked 16th among Centers in 24, ranked 23rd last year, that’s an average starter at best, maybe a little below average. What was that contract for again because this doesn’t look great.

Everybody says he will fit right in and a clear upgrade from last year. Okay, but last year is a very low bar to clear and is the fit really that great?
He is an experienced Center, but it’s 20 games, slightly over a season’s worth of experience.
Real up and comer, but the team that knows him the best cut him in 24 and when they brought him back they made it clear upgrading their OL was a huge priority for them last offseason and Center was one position where they wanted change.
Is this one man’s trash is another man’s treasure?

I’m getting nervous, what is plan B and they do have a better plan B than they had last year. That Plan B appears to be Juice Scruggs. Seeming a throw in for the Montgomery trade the Lions said otherwise and a little digging explains it.
2nd round pick in 23 for Houston, started 8 games at Center in 24. but was moved to OG when they lost their starter and put in a 6th round pick from the 23 draft. Then when their OG came back they benched Scruggs for that late round guy where he stayed for the 25 season also. Ouch.

Houston was another team that wanted to change up their OL and Scruggs was one player they were moving on from.
Let’s get this straight, 3 teams, Houston, Carolina and Detroit went into the offseason wanting to shake up their OL starting with the Center and the Lions end up taking their castaways and tell us it’s going to be great.

BTW, both missed games with foot injuries last year, centers with foot injuries, what could go wrong.

Speaking of injuries, don’t overlook Seth McLaughlin who was the Remington award winner in 2024 before blowing out an ACL late in the season at Ohio St. Went UDFA to the Bengals where after only 10 months from injury he ended up on the Practice Squad all last year.
Lions quickly picked him up in the offseason and you have to wonder if there isn’t something there. Would have been among the best Centers in the draft. ACL injuries are not career threatening for a Center, healthy now this is like getting a 3rd-4th round prospect.
Maybe I should give this guy more love.

I’m going to keep a positive attitude, I can see how this can work, Mays could settle in and settle the IOL, keep Goff standing while letting the OGs blow out holes for Gibbs.
Scruggs could be a great C/OG guy that pushes Mahagony or maybe Mays, meanwhile McLaughin is pushing everybody.
