NFL defensive tackle Grover Stewart hosts fourth annual youth camp

  • July 12, 2026

CAMILLA, Ga. (WALB) — Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Grover Stewart returned to Mitchell County for his fourth annual free youth football camp, giving young athletes from across South Georgia the opportunity to learn from one of the area’s most prominent football figures.

Stewart, a Mitchell County High School graduate, held the camp at his alma mater. He attended Albany State University before being selected by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

“It means a lot, man, to come out here and give back and see like the guys come out here, compete, see everybody joining their old friends, making new friends out here,” Stewart said. “So it’s a big deal for me, man.”

Stewart said his time at Albany State was a key part of his development, noting that he began playing football later than most players.

“It helped me out big time, man,” Stewart said. “Like with the speed of the game, with the knowledge of the game and like, give me experience, man, because I started playing football late and going to Albany St it helped me prepare myself and got me stronger faster and smarter to the game.”

In addition to on-field instruction, Stewart donated school supplies to campers ahead of the upcoming school year.

“Hey man, I think education is the most important thing,” Stewart said. “You don’t have nothing up top, man. Ain’t no telling what’ll happen. But having the kids set up for school, that’s a big thing for me because I know some people, they don’t have supplies. But today everybody came out. They don’t have school supplies and they’re gonna be ready for school.”
