WATCH: Birmingham-area head coaches look ahead to the 2026 football season
High school football season is officially kicking into gear. Coaches and players from across the Birmingham area gathered today. At Thompson High School for day one of *** or AL.com’s rather, uh, high school football media days. With the season now just weeks away, teams are focused on building momentum before the first games kick off next month. Playing high school football is *** top 10 experience in *** young man’s life, as it should be, and I tell the guys, guys, when you do that, you’re not gonna remember all the wins and losses. You’re gonna remember those relationships after those wins and those, and the fun times that you have with those guys after those games. That’s what you’re gonna remember. The first regular season games are set for August 20th and 21st.

The road to the 2026 high school football season officially began Monday at Thompson High School, where coaches and players from across the Birmingham area gathered for the opening day of AL.com’s High School Football Media Days.
With the first games just weeks away, coaches shared their expectations for the season, discussed offseason progress and previewed what fans can expect this fall.
