UK football fans have lost an average of three hours of sleep per match during the World Cup as they stay up to watch games played in North America. A survey of 2,000 supporters found that 39% have turned up to work exhausted after late-night kick-offs, while many are relying on caffeine, naps and their daily commute to catch up on the action. Despite the lack of sleep, more than a quarter of fans said they would rather stay awake and watch matches live than risk missing a major World Cup moment.
