FRANKLIN — Miami Dolphins linebacker and FrankTown Open Hearts alumnus Tyrel Dodson will return to Franklin later this month to take part in the nonprofit’s annual Back-to-School Bash.
The event is scheduled for 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Kohl’s, 300 Spring Creek Drive.
Dodson will join more than 60 FrankTown students and dozens of volunteers for the annual shopping event, where students receive a $200 budget to purchase clothing and other back-to-school essentials.
Each student is paired with a volunteer shopper who helps them stay within budget while offering encouragement and support throughout the experience.
“This day is about so much more than buying clothes,” said Chris Barnhill, executive director of FrankTown Open Hearts. “It’s about giving students the confidence to walk into a new school year knowing they are cared for and equipped for success. Having Tyrel return as a FrankTown alumnus makes the day even more meaningful and serves as an incredible example of what’s possible for our students.”
Following the shopping portion of the event, students will gather at Fourth Avenue Church of Christ, where they will receive backpacks filled with school supplies that K-LOVE collected and assembled. The supplies are based on needs identified by Williamson County Schools.
Barnhill said the organization is grateful for support from Kohl’s, K-LOVE, volunteers and donors who help make the event possible.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Tyrel back to FrankTown and grateful that he is investing in the next generation alongside our volunteers,” Barnhill said. “His presence reminds our students that their dreams are achievable, and their community believes in them.”
FrankTown Open Hearts is a faith-based nonprofit serving under-resourced students in Williamson County through year-round educational programming, mentoring, vocational training, and other support services to help students succeed in school and beyond.
