Local football camps bringing out former high school stand outs
Four Savannah natives, now playing football for South Florida, reunited in their hometown to host a free football camp called “Camp with the Champs” at Memorial Stadium, aiming to give back to the community that helped shape their success.
Luke Kromenhoek explained their decision, saying, “We’re all at South Florida, and we were all talking in the locker room and we just decided we’re all from Savannah. Why not get back to the community that give us so much?”
Za’Quan Bryan reflected on the event, saying, “Oh, camp felt great. A lot of kids came out, [and] had a ton of fun.”
Terry Simmons Jr. followed up saying, “It’s been a good day, a long day. Got to see a lot of kids. Got to just mentor the youth, be around and love on them, and make sure they had a good time.”
The day of football camps at Memorial Stadium didn’t stop there. Rob DeLoach and his training program, The Factory, hosted a girls’ flag football camp from 4 to 9 p.m. The camp quickly filled up, with 200 girls registering to participate.
DeLoach shared his enthusiasm, saying, “[I’m] probably more excited than the kids. We started setting up around 2:30. We had parents here at about 2:00. So as you can see, everybody’s crowding in. Everybody’s ready to go. I’m ready to go.”
