INTERSTATE INPUT: The Tennessee Department of Transportation will hold two public meetings next week as it launches a study to consider improvements to the city’s interstate highways (40, 65, 24 and 440). The Planning and Environmental Linkages study aims to improve planning and speed up planned changes. The meetings will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Tennessee State University (New Residence Hall, FIS Room, Room 1201) and from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Trevecca Nazarene University (Benson Auditorium, McClurkan Hall). Identical information will be presented at each, both of which will be conducted in an open-house style format. Hundreds of people took part in the 5th Annual Rep. John Lewis March on Saturday morning. Participants gathered at the Tennessee State Library and Archives building for snacks, water, and addresses from guest speakers. From there, the procession moved along Rep. John Lewis Way to the Ryman Auditorium. Marchers endured high temperatures, and shuttle busses were provided for those who were not pysically able to cover the distance on their own.
BACK AT IT: Nashville SC remains the only Major League Soccer franchise unbeaten at home this season following a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United on Friday at Geodis Park. The match ended a 54-day break to accommodate the World Cup. The Boys in Gold are now 7-0-1 at home this season and are unbeaten in their last nine overall (7-0-2). “This is an amazing group,” said Shak Mohammed, who scored the goal. “It means a lot to keep winning, and it’s always better to improve whilst winning.” Nashville is atop the MLS Eastern Conference standings with 36 points (11-1-3) and will play at home again Wednesday against CF Montreal (7:30 p.m., Apple TV). — David Boclair
IN THE RING: The Tennessee Titans announced Friday that former running back Chris Johnson will be added to the team’s Ring of Honor this fall. The formal installation will take place during the Week 1 game against the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium. The 40-year-old who retired after the 2017 season attracted national attention recently when he announced he is dealing with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Johnson is the franchise’s fourth all-time leading rusher with 7,965 yards in three seasons. “His stats speak for themselves, and he will forever remain a leader in our record books, but the man behind the yardage deserves just as much celebration,” controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a release. Johnson will be the 20th inductee into the ring and will be followed by former coach and broadcaster Dave McGinnis, who will be added later in the season. — David Boclair
