One of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive ends was named an undrafted free agent rookie to watch for this summer.
Defensive end BJ Green was named the Jacksonville Jaguars’ undrafted rookie to watch this summer by Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports.
“I didn’t love the Jaguars undrafted free agent class,” wrote Trapasso. “I did, however, like the flashes I witnessed while evaluating BJ Green II at Colorado in 2024. At a hair over 6-foot and 252 pounds, he’s reasonably small for the EDGE position in the NFL. The 32-inch arms help mitigate some of the size concerns, and there’s some serious juice when he fires off the ball, as evidenced by his 1.61-second 10-yard split.”
After playing three seasons at Arizona State, Green transferred to Colorado for the 2024 season. He has steadily graded out well as a pass rusher by PFF’s metrics, and totaled 43 pressures and six sacks this past year.
His most productive season came in 2023, when Green recorded 56 pressures and eight sacks. Those 56 pressures ranked as the 11th most among all defensive ends that year.
Along with his production, Green also has experience lining up across multiple gaps during his college career.
“At Arizona State in 2023, Green made it work despite his size deficiency with 56 pressures on 393 pass-rushing snaps (14.2%) pressure rate,” added Trapasso. “You’ll see him beat some preseason offensive tackles with bend around the corner and the ability to flatten to the quarterback. Vitally, Green understands how to deploy his hands at the point of attack, and he has the speed-to-power conversion we all should expect for a rusher with his stocky build.”
Beyond how a UDFA performs on the field, they also have to be at a position where there is a potential opening or two on the 53-man roster.
What we know right now when it comes to the defensive end spot is that Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, and Emmanuel Ogbah will be at the top of the depth chart. After those three, some shuffling could take place.
