Eagles Legend Speaks Out on Failed Free Agent originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Bryce Huff will eventually go down as one of the worst free agent signings in Philadelphia Eagles history. After agreeing to a three-year, $51 million deal, Huff struggled to get on the field throughout the team’s Super Bowl season.

Of course, the organization won the Super Bowl anyway … so being the “worst” free agent signing may not mean as much for the Eagles.

There are many reasons why Huff was unable to make a positive impact on Philly’s defense last season. And now that he has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers, some of those concerns are being brought to light.

On the Ross Tucker Podcast, former Eagles edge rusher Brandon Graham explained some of the key reasons why Huff was not able to make much of an impact.

“Well, I just think with the Jets it was just that defense, man. I know what it’s like playing in that 4-3 Wide Nine, go get it every play.” Graham explained. “It’s all scheme. I’ve seen different guys flourish in different systems and then you see him get in another system… it just wasn’t a great marriage.

“I will say because I know Huff can rush. I’ve seen him doing all that, but sometimes, it’s just different with the type of scheme and what people asks of you and they want you to be able to do and maybe it just wasn’t that for Vic Fangio.”

Schematic struggles happen all the time across the league. The fact that the Eagles simply wanted to cut their losses shows that they didn’t really want to deal with Huff anymore.

And now Huff gets to join a team that better fits what he can do at the NFL level.
