It’s been a big summer for romance for tight ends in the AFC West, and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is the latest entrant in this category as he announced his engagement to his longtime significant other with training camp about to open, Cameron Newell, according to a story by Kalan Hooks of ESPN.

This one is more of a sweet story than that other AFC West tight end romance, as it comes without the celebrity glitz and glamor. Bowers, who is 23, met Newell when they were both in high school in Napa, and theyv’e been dating since 2020. They attended high school prom together, according to Hooks, and maintained a long-distance relationship in college while Bowers played for Georgia and Newell attended the University of Tennessee.

The couple announced their engagement via a joint social media post to announced, as Newell wrote, “The best surprise of my life… Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Bowers did the whole romantic bit as he got down on bended knee to make it official, and Hooks added that Newell seemed to be overwhelmed with emotion. As Bowers asked Newell to marry her, she was overjoyed and her response was simple: “Yes!”

Bowers is popular among his teammates, and the comments were filled with congratulatory messages from some of Bowers and Newell’s close friends and teammates, including running back Ashton Jeanty, Hannah Cavinder and New England Patriots  quarterback Drake Maye’s wife, Anne Michael Maye. The photo that showed Bowers delivering the ring was labeled “The Bower of love,” which he’ll undoubtedly be hearing about in camp.

Newell also wrote more, the writer added, stating that,  “Getting engaged in Napa, where we first met, couldn’t have felt more right. I’m so lucky I get to do life with you. I can’t wait to marry you.”

This is a big season for Bowers. He obliterated the NFL record book for rookie tight ends with over 100 catches in 2024, but last year was a tough season for him, as he was hurt in the Raiders season opener and never got right after that. He eventually had knee surgery but is fully healthy going into this year.

He’s expected to play a big role in the Raiders revamped offense, especially since the receiving group isn’t considered strong. The Raiders do have a pair of good to great tight ends in Michael Mayer and Bowers, and two tight-end sets will apparently be the order of the day as Las Vegas tried to find its footing under new coach Klint Kubiak.Â
