BJ Hill out with injury as first day of Bengals training camp set to get underway this week
CINCINNATI —
As the first day of Bengals training camp is set to get underway on Tuesday, a key member of Cincinnati’s defense is expected to miss it.
Defensive tackle B.J. Hill was suddenly placed on the Bengals’ preseason injury list on Saturday, with Hill said to be “physically unable to perform” for practice. However, additional details about Hill’s injury were not immediately provided by the team.

During the same announcement, recently-acquired tight end Josh Kattus was also said to have suffered a “non-football injury” that will keep him sidelined during the beginning of training camp. However, further specifics were not shared by the team about Kattus’s injury either.
Hill, 31, has been with the Bengals since 2021, where he has served as one of the more reliable members of the team’s notoriously lackluster defense throughout that time.
During his most recent season, the North Carolina native had 66 total tackles and four sacks. This was the sixth-most among all of the Bengals’ roster in tackles and third-most in sacks.
Because of this, the ability for Hill to stay healthy could ultimately prove critical to the success of Cincinnati’s defensive strategy this season as the team attempts to finally shake off its long-held reputation as one of the NFL’s easiest teams to score against.
Bengals training camp will last between July 28 and Aug. 16 over the next three weeks. Some of the team’s practices will be available to the public during that time.
