While Jones praised Kelce’s relationship with Swift and acknowledged the stability it brings, he questioned whether married athletes typically perform at the same level as before.
“I have long said that no athlete, other than Jack Nicklaus, their game was improved by marriage,” Jones said on KCTV5. “I think stability is good for a football player, I think stability is good for an athlete, and stability starts at home.”
Those remarks quickly spread across social media, with many fans criticizing the suggestion that Kelce’s marriage could negatively influence his play.

“I thought he was in really good shape last year and remember, he led the team in receiving last year,” Jones said. “He did not play badly; the team did not play well. Is he one of the best players in the NFL? No. But is he still a winning player? He absolutely is.”
