OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The fifth annual youth football Gorilla Wideouts Camp was held at Millard South on July 11.
The event is run by New Orleans Saints wide receivers coach Keith Williams, a former Nebraska assistant coach from 2015-17.
“I met a lot of great people in Nebraska, particularly here in Omaha and Lincoln, but I’ve always had love for Lincoln and love for Nebraska itself,” Williams said. “I met a lot of good people who love wideout play. I do too, so I love coming back and doing this camp.”
Each year, Williams has brought NFL players both from his receiver room with the Saints, along with others he is connected to.
“It’s very fulfilling, gratifying,” Williams said. “The guys I can bring back, they feel that way too even as young players in the NFL, so it all works out.”
This year, the guest coaches group included former Nebraska wide receiver Trey Palmer, who broke the program’s single-season receiving yards record (1,043) during his one season with the Huskers in 2022.
“It was a no doubt,” Palmer said of participating in the camp. “I knew he had a camp because I had heard about it, but it was a no doubt that I was coming back to Nebraska, to GBR. This is like a home to me. It’s just a blessing to be out here and give back to the kids because once they was me going to camps.”
Former Iowa cornerback TJ Hall, who was drafted by the Saints in the seventh round this year, and fourth-round wide receiver draft pick Bryce Lance also attended the camp.
“We were back in New Orleans and we were just chopping it up and he was asking me what I was doing over break,” Hall said. “I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to be back in Iowa.’ He was like, ‘Man, come through and do my camp in Nebraska.’ It’s awesome. Whenever you can give back to the kids or anybody, it’s an awesome thing and it’s a blessing that we’re able to even be out here.”
“It’s always good to give back, absolutely,” Lance added. “And I think coaches like coach Williams doing these things like this, it’s a really special opportunity.”
For Palmer, the chance to return to Nebraska and give back in the state where he had a breakout season was meaningful.
“Being back in Nebraska and GBR, I just love it here,” he said. “It’s just that atmosphere out here that I always love and it’s like a home to me, like I always say.”
The Saints signed Palmer off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in August 2025. He missed the entire regular season with an ankle injury and was placed on injured reserve in October.
Now healthy, Williams said Palmer has been a valuable addition to the Saints’ receiver room.
“Trey is awesome,” Williams said. “He’s a good player, he’s very talented, he’s eager, he’s a grinder, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.”
