A former Buffalo Bills cornerback who was on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offseason roster has decided to retire from the NFL.
The Jaguars announced Tuesday that cornerback Dane Jackson is hanging up his cleats after six seasons in the NFL. Jackson was placed on the reserve/retired list, and the Jaguars signed cornerback Corey Ballentine to take Jackson’s spot on the roster.
“We have signed CB Corey Ballentine and placed CB Dane Jackson on the Reserve/Retired list,” the Jaguars wrote.
Jackson is just 29, so his retirement is no doubt a surprise. Ballentine will now have an opportunity to compete for the backup role Jackson was vying for.

The veteran cornerback signed a one-year, $1.215 million deal with the Jags earlier this offseason. His retirement comes just one days before the Jags’ first practice of camp.

Dane Jackson defied the odds to have the career he did.
Jackson was a seventh-round pick of the Bills in 2020 and spent the first four seasons of his career with the team and even worked his way into a starting role in 2022.
However, Jackson ultimately settled in as a backup for the majority of his career.

The Pittsburgh product moved on from Buffalo in 2024 and played for the Carolina Panthers that season, appearing in nine games (three starts).
He returned to Buffalo in 2025, but Jackson only managed to play in three contests for the Bills while spending the season on the practice squad.
Jackson finishes his NFL career with 178 tackles, three tackles for loss, three interceptions and 30 passes defensed.
