OXNARD, Calif. – What if the only Dallas Cowboys “drama” of the summer is all about positivity?

For one day, anyway, your wish is team owner Jerry Jones’ command, as he oversaw Tuesday’s “State of the Team” address here in Oxnard with a variety of upbeat strokes as Dallas is set to open training camp.

To wit, Fish’s Top 10 Positive Takes from Jerry Jones’ Glory Hole’ camp presser here in Oxnard …

1 – We got a chance to really be good,” Jones said. “I like the mood … (But) it will be hard.”

2 – Jerry said he is willing to ‘give up the future’ to add a big-time player … and just talked to another owner about such a “substantive” trade.

Can you say “Raiders and Maxx Crosby,’‘ anybody?

Jones said the Cowboys, who did bid on a Crosby trade in the off-season “never lost interest” … but he ended the conversation there siding potential tampering.

“He’s a Raider.”

3 – COO Stephen Jones said the Cowboys won’t have any player starting camp on PUP or NFI.

4 – DaRon Bland (foot) and Donovan Ezeiruaku (hip) will be monitored at the start of camp because they didn’t do much in the offseason. … but no special restrictions.

5 – All-Pro Tyler Smith will start at left guard but get some left tackle snaps, according to coach Brian Schottenheimer. And right guard Tyler Booker will get some snaps at center as well …

Sounds like smart CYA more than a disaster plan.

6 – Stephen Jones says DT Quinnen Williams is at the top of the list of players they want to get signed long-term.

“Absolutely,” he said. “We’re very open to that. We want Quinnen here for the long haul.”

And in fact … The Cowboys have already opened talks with Williams’ agent. (See below.)

7 – Asked what would make this a successful season, Jerry said, “To contend for a Super Bowl. And if you contend, you’ve got a real chance of being in the game.”

8 – Rookie coach concerns? Nah. Brian Schottenheimer on Christian Parker: “He’s a first time defensive coordinator who doesn’t act like a first time defensive coordinator.”

Schotty added that Parker might be the hardest-working coach he’s ever been around.

9 – “Make no mistake about it,” Jerry insisted. “George (Pickens) could be a Cowboy for a long, long time to come.”

10 – Jerry joked that he might disrupt the so-far quiet offseason.

But seriously, folks …

“We’ve had a lot going on (behind the scenes),” he said. “We’ve made a lot of difficult decisions. … I like the perception that it’s been a quiet offseason. I like the mood. I like what we’re coming to camp with …”

And more …

“I don’t plan on doing anything here to stir things up,” he promised … which might be the best football-first news of all.
