One of the more intriguing competitions this summer will be seeing how playing time shakes out along the offensive line for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Since Coen arrived in Jacksonville as the head coach, he’s been straightforward in saying that the Jaguars’ offensive line play has to improve this season.

GM James Gladstone’s actions this offseason reflected those sentiments. We saw the Jaguars sign four outside free agents along the offensive line and then make two more additions to this unit in the NFL draft.

So with six new additions and a few returning starters, what might this Jaguars’ starting five on the offensive line look like for the 2025 season?

Pro Football Focus recently projected what the Jaguars’ starting offensive and defensive lineups would be for the upcoming year. Along the offensive line, PFF had Walker Little at left tackle, followed by Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, and Anton Harrison.

Given where we are in the offseason, with the pads not on at practice, which makes evaluating offensive line play a very difficult task, the above configuration is the safe bet at this time. Hainsey and Mekari were the two big free agent additions and slide in where there were obvious openings, while Little, Cleveland, and Harrison are all returning starters.

But with the new faces added to the roster this offseason, the Jaguars gained a lot of versatility, to be able to mix and match different offensive line combinations, and they’ve also created a lot of competition, something that Coen wants to lean into across the roster.

“It’s rep-to-rep, honestly,” Coen said of the roster last week via the team site. “It’s rack-to-rack is really kind of what we talk about. Getting guys in with the ones in the first rack and then slide them in with the twos with the next rack, and try to give guys opportunities, knowing they’re not truly getting judged and graded on the competition right now.

“We always want to compete in everything that we’re doing, but ultimately, it’s about trying to create that continuity at times within the system, within the offense and defense, and the calls.”

When it comes to the offensive line, the Jaguars have an idea of who will be starting come Week 1, but I don’t know that any combination is being sharpied in at this time. My guess is that we see a number of different configurations over the summer to stress test this unit as the team searches for their best five players to put on the field.

Getting consistent play out of the offense as a whole begins with what is happening up front. Step No. 1 is the offensive line being able to provide the Jaguars with a run game to lean on and time in the pocket for Trevor Lawrence to be able to operate within the timing and the rhythm of the play.

“From a communication standpoint, all five being on the same page, you can definitely see an intent behind what they’re trying to do,” Coen said after Tuesday’s practice. “I think Shaun (Sarrett), and Keli’i (Kekuewa), and Trevor (Mendelson) have done a really nice job in that room, and I think the players have caught on in a lot of ways.”
