One of the most versatile and beloved players in New Orleans Saints history, Taysom Hill officially announced Wednesday his departure from the team, confirming that returning is “not in the cards”
In coordination with the Saints, the free agent released the following statement on social media:
For the last nine years, New Orleans has been so much more than the city where I played. It’s where my family built a life, where our oldest son was born, and where we formed relationships and made memories that will stay with us forever.
I’ve taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me. I still don’t have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards.
As training camp begins, I didn’t want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as it is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude.
To the city of New Orleans: thank you. I had always heard, “If you love New Orleans, New Orleans will love you back.” That could not have been more true. You exceeded every expectation I had of what it would be like to live and play in a city. The passion, loyalty, and support you showed my family and me over these nine seasons were truly one of a kind.
We will always be grateful for the way you embraced us both on and off the field!
The announcement comes on the evening following the first practice of training camp for the Saints.
Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis also released a statement, praising Hill’s contributions on the field and additional qualities as a both a teammate and leader for the franchise.
Hill has not officially retired so he may emerge on another team for a 10th pro season. The BYU product turns 35 in late August.
After entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017, he had a brief offseason stint with the Green Bay Packers before he was claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints, where he spent his entire 9-year playing career from 2017 through the 2025 season.
Hill’s overall usage declined late in his Saints tenure due to a severe knee injury suffered at the end of the 2024 season, which limited his explosive production during his final year on the field for New Orleans.
Affectionately known as the Human Swiss Army Knife as a unique utility player on offense and special teams, Hill is the only NFL player in the Super Bowl era to gain over 1,000 career passing, rushing, and receiving yards.
Hill has accounted for more than 5,500 yards from scrimmage and over 60 total touchdowns. He has completed 551 of 894 passes for 6,796 yards with 45 touchdown passes while adding 3,132 rushing yards and 42 rushing touchdowns on 689 carries. As a receiver, he has caught 125 passes for 1,157 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also made his mark with the Saints on special teams with numerous tackles, blocked punts and blocked kicks throughout his career.
