GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — In the NFL, opportunity can be fleeting, but running back Tyler Allgeier is keeping his focus sharp by embracing an underdog mentality.
Despite facing a crowded depth chart, Allgeier views the competition not as a setback, but as a challenge to execute whenever his number is called.
Allgeier signed a two-year, $12.25 million contract with the Cardinals back in March. The running back’s team-first attitude was put to the test when the front office added more talent to the roster by selecting Jeremiyah Love in the NFL Draft.
However, head coach Mike LaFleur made sure to personally reach out and communicate his vision after the draft, ensuring Allgeier knew he remained a vital part of the team’s offensive plans.
“When they drafted him, it was very exciting, and Coach LaFleur ended up calling me,” Allgeier said, reflecting on the reassurance. “It was good. It was not like, ‘Oh, we are going to bench you.’ It was a really good conversation because he did not have to do that.”
While a crowded backfield often raises questions about how touches will be distributed, the players themselves welcome the extra help. In a grueling league where injuries are common, having quality depth is a major advantage that keeps everyone fresh for the long season ahead.
“You can see that around the league,” Allgeier said. “Some guys are elite, but they are smart about practice. I think depth in this league is great to have so many options.”
With a strong mindset and the backing of his head coach, Allgeier is prepared to make every opportunity count.
