GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Peshtigo native and St. Norbert College alumnus Mitch Van Vooren is back in an NFL training camp, this time looking to carve out a permanent home out east with the New England Patriots.
The tight end is currently working to secure a spot on the roster of the reigning AFC Champions, marking his third stint in the league after previous stops with the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks. Van Vooren says his past experiences are already paying major dividends during his time in Foxborough.
“Just kept making sure I was in shape, staying ready for this opportunity when it presented itself,” Van Vooren said. “I had a local workout and then recorded that and sent some film around to the teams. Then I got this call, flew out, and had my workout down there.”
The whirlwind process of joining a new squad in the middle of training camp can be grueling, but Van Vooren is keeping his eyes on the ultimate prize.
“Everything moved pretty quick, but it was a good opportunity for me,” he said. “Obviously, making the team and carving out a role is definitely a goal of mine. So just making sure every day I’m doing what I got to do, learning the playbook as well as I can and just showcasing my ability.”
