OXNARD, Calif. — The Cowboys already have the 88 club when it comes to receivers. The number has been given to star receivers for the franchise, dating to Drew Pearson, continuing with Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant, and currently being represented by CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Flournoy wants to start another club.

If Flournoy — a former sixth-round pick — can go from under the radar to in the spotlight, he could be the latest receiver to wear No. 19 to make an impact.

Flournoy said he was familiar with the story of former Cowboys receiver Miles Austin, who made two Pro Bowls after he went undrafted to start his career. He also pointed to the success that Amari Cooper had in Dallas with No. 19.

It’s why Flournoy switched from No. 80 to No. 19 after his rookie season with the Cowboys.

“They got the 88 tradition, why don’t they do the 19 tradition?” Flournoy said.

Flournoy understands there’s still plenty of room to grow before he can open up the No. 19 club. He had 40 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns last season. He’s confident those numbers will rise this season.

“I wanted 1,000 yards last season,” he said with a laugh when asked about the possibility this year.

If he can reach the milestone this year, they might have to consider a No. 19 club.
